ISTA/ICTM Education Conference
October 18-19, 2019
Peoria Civic Center
Peoria, IL
CONFERENCE OVERVIEW
Again this year the Illinois Science Teachers Association and the Illinois Council for Teachers of Mathematics are sponsoring a joint conference. Sessions are designed to address topics important to enhancing students' opportunities by expanding, inspiring and motivating STEM learning. The workshops address one or more of the following themes:
Assessment: Sessions in this strand address the need for assessment to match both the desired student outcomes/performance expectations and research-based pedagogical approaches. Topics include ideas related to meaningful assessment of practices and student thinking that are connected to ideas such as three-dimensional learning and effective use of technologies.
Access and Interest: Sessions in this strand address the need for today’s classrooms to encourage all students to complete STEM courses and to increase the number that pursue additional study and professional work beyond high school. Ideas that promote equitable, differentiated learning opportunities for all students in math and science are the focus of these offerings. The use of natural student motivators such as phenomena and real-world applications will be explored.
Innovative Teaching Strategies for Specific Content: Sessions in this strand address ideas to improve students’ opportunities to learn. Topics include one or more of the following: advances in discipline specific pedagogy, storylining, making connections within and between disciplines using ideas such as cross-cutting concepts, technology integration, and linking students practices and ways of thinking to meaningful learning of content.
Friday General Session Speaker: José Luis Vilson
We are very pleased to announce that José Luis Vilson will be our speaker at the opening general session on Friday. In addition to his many speaking engagements, he has also coauthored Teaching 2030: What We Must Do For Our Students and Public Schools … Now and In The Future was profiled in Teacherpreneurs and Teaching with Heart.

Special District Group Discount
With the hope of providing more teachers the opportunity to attend our joint conference, ISTA and ICTM have agreed to a new discount program. If your district sends 5 or more teachers combined for math or science the two-day conference fee will be reduced by $25 dollars per registrant. To take advantage of this special savings contact Bob Wolffe at rjwolffe@bradley.edu. He will send you the registration form to be used for groups. The same form will be used for all registrants regardless of discipline. DO NOT register on-line as an individual using this site if you plan to use the group option. Invoices provided upon request.
If your school or school district is paying for 4 or less people to attend, each person must be registered individually and a receipt or bill will be sent via email as each registration is completed. A single payment can then be sent for the entire group and each invoice will be recorded as paid upon receipt of payment.
