  • A 3-day workshop dedicated to helping you see the forest in addition to the trees. Learn how to identify trees, measure forest health, understand the forest’s past and even predict its future. You will leave confident in teaching students how to read the landscape by measuring biotic and abiotic factors of their environment.

Field scientists from the Forest Preserves of Cook County and NGSS experts from the Illinois Science Teaching Association present:   

TERRESTRIAL ECOLOGY 

Field scientists from the Forest Preserves of Cook County and NGSS experts from the Illinois Science Teaching Association present a 3-day workshop on local ecosystems in northeastern Illinois. Learn how to identify plants and visit local ecological communities to develop understanding of regional environments. Learn how to use terraria and aquaria for teaching application in the classroom.17 PD hours - no additional charge 

Tuesday, July 12 – Thursday, July 14     9:30 am – 2:30 pm  

PLUS: Zoom session with

Nicole Vick, ISTA, Tuesday, July 12, 5 pm - 7 pm.

Registration required, slots are limited

Workshop will involve hikes across rugged terrain, wading in creek, and off-trail field science.

Bring snacks or a field-ready lunch with you each day.
